About
Continuing the “Most Christmassy Day” tradition launched last year, Vilnius invites residents and visitors alike to take part in the “Slowest Christmas Marathon” on 12 December.
This is a marathon where no one keeps track of time and there is no reason to rush. The only goal is to enjoy the anticipation of Christmas in the city.
Inspired by the format of nature documentaries, Vilnius will invite residents and visitors to become “Christmas Walkers” this year.
They have their own distinctive habits: they choose the most interesting route rather than the shortest one, notice snowflakes sparkling in the glow of streetlights, wander into the courtyards of the Old Town, follow the scent of cinnamon and coffee, or simply allow themselves to be present in the city.
While many European cities plunge into the festive rush, compact and easily explored on foot, Vilnius invites everyone to experience the magic of Christmas without haste or chaos.
During the “Slowest Christmas Marathon,” participants will be able to explore festively decorated Vilnius, complete fun challenges, visit special stops and collect memorable festive moments. On 12–13 December, marathon participants will also enjoy exclusive offers and experiences from Vilnius partners.
Unexpected discoveries await at Christmas in Vilnius!

ATTENTION!
The entire Vilnius tourism and services ecosystem is invited to actively join this city initiative. Cafés, restaurants, shops, hotels and cultural venues across the capital are encouraged to become marathon partners by offering unique experiences or special Christmas-themed activities.
Businesses and organisations interested in becoming part of the marathon are invited to complete the partner application form by 5 November. The form is available at www.govilnius.lt/kaledos-vilniuje-2026.
