Vilnius, the historic and vibrant capital of Lithuania, has been honored with the title of European Christmas Capital 2025 by the Christmas Cities Network. This recognition celebrates the city’s outstanding dedication to fostering the holiday spirit through its unique blend of history, culture, and community engagement. With its dazzling displays, iconic Christmas tree, and rich program of events, Vilnius invites visitors to experience a festive season like no other.
The selection process is overseen by the Christmas Cities Network, an organization dedicated to promoting the cultural, social, and economic values of Christmas celebrations across Europe. Supported by the European Parliament, this initiative aims to highlight cities and villages that exemplify community engagement, innovation, and heritage preservation during the holiday season.
Alongside Vilnius, Celje in Slovenia has been named European Christmas City 2025, and Noja in Spain has been awarded European Christmas Village 2025. Celje dazzles visitors with its Fairytale Celje program, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025, offering enchanting storytelling, artisan markets, and medieval holiday activities. Noja, with its coastal charm, transforms into a magical Christmas Village, featuring family-friendly workshops, local gastronomy, and illuminated streets that blend natural beauty with festive cheer.
Both destinations reflect the spirit of the Christmas Cities Network by fostering community engagement, preserving local traditions, and promoting sustainability in their festive celebrations.
The international jury, chaired by Professor Danuta Hübner, an esteemed economist and politician, brings a wealth of expertise. Hübner has served as European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Member of the European Parliament, reinforcing the Network’s commitment to European cultural values and excellence.
